Magnolia Ya’ll

I had a friend invite me to go on a girls long weekend to Waco Texas. It was such an enjoyable time being with friends and visiting the sites! I thought I would share a little about our get-a-way.

We stayed in an actual home from the HGTV show Fixer-Upper show. The home was the “Gorman House.”

We enjoyed this cute home. It was exciting to see Chip and Joanna’s designs from the show.

The Silos

First on our list of Activities was to visit the Silos, which included: Silos Baking Company, Magnolia Market, Magnolia Seed + Supply, a whole row of Food Trucks.

We started our day sitting on the picnic benches and listening to music playing.  Everyone in our group sampled various items from the local food trucks.  Several of them were Magnolia Table trucks, that served dishes you might order at the restaurant.  I tried the chicken salad sandwich, and it was yummy.  Some of our group tried sandwiches from the Cheddar Box.  One of my friends had a crepe.  All the food we ate was delicious. Click Here to a blog post by Joanna Gaines, where she writes about the food trucks.

The picnic tables were decorated with these buckets with herbs growing in them.  It was a simple touch that added charm.

Silos Baking Co.

After eating our lunch, we got in line for the Silos Baking Co.  Because there was eight of us, we were able to sample a lot of baked goods.

I also tried this rosewater lemonade.  It was light and refreshing.  It was something I hadn’t tried or seen before.

Here are some shots of the cookies and cupcakes.  We also tried the scones.  We were divided on our favorite cupcakes.  Half liked the vanilla and half enjoyed the chocolate with chocolate frosting.  I’m a consistent lover of anything chocolate, and I enjoyed the vanilla cupcake the best.  In this trip advisor post, you can see a menu and tips.

Magnolia Market

After we enjoyed all the delicious treats, we decided to head into Magnolia Market.

Everything in the store is tastefully done in a very Joanna Gaines style.  I loved just walking around and taking it all in.

I thought this display was styled like something you would see in the Anthropology store.

Here is the group after our shopping spree.  We helped the economy of Waco with this visit.  I didn’t buy very much at the actual location, because I didn’t’ have room to bring it home  I found the items I liked and ordered them online. Here is a link to the Magnolia Market online.

After the plans were in place to visit Waco Texas, we found out that Reese Witherspoon was doing a book signing for her Whiskey in a Teacup book tour.  We purchased tickets for this event.  It made a nice end to our Magnolia day.  It was also enjoyable because we were able to see Chip and Joanna Gaines.  For the super fans in our group, this made some happy ladies! You can purchase Reese’s book here.

Magnolia Seed + Supply

We ended up coming back to the Silos several days later and visiting the Seed +Supply area.  I thought I would add a little about it in the Silos section of this post.  Because it is part of the Silos.

The gardens were pretty and charming.  There was a little station where you could have a succulent potted for you.  The garden had flowers and veggies growing around.

The garden store had all sorts of planting and potting supplies.

There was also a spot with candles, lotions, and soaps.  All done in a botanical theme.

Just outside the garden was this fun swing that we all had to take a turn on.

Magnolia Table

Next up was eating at Magnolia Table Restaurant.  The restaurant only does breakfast and lunch, they don’t take reservations, and they close at 3:00 pm.  We arrived a little before noon and were some of the last groups able to put our name on the list.  They took our cell phone numbers and we were able to look at shops for a while.  I’ll share about some of the shops later in this post.

The restaurant included a take-out area that you could purchase a limited number of items from the menu.  You could also buy Joanna’s cookbook and other cooking supplies.

This area was a nice addition because if you didn’t want to wait to eat at the restaurant, you could still try some of the food.

The restaurant is styled so pretty.  I especially loved the vines climbing up the walls.  Another addition was the shaded outside waiting area.  There was a stand that you could buy drinks and pastries while you wait.

We grabbed diet cokes and enjoyed hanging out and talking.

We ended up being seated at around 2:30 p.m., it was a long wait, but one of the reasons that we came to visit Waco.  So, we didn’t mind.  The restaurant opens at 6:00 a.m. and our waiter told us that there are 100-200 people waiting in line to sign up for the waiting list.  We were told that we would need to break into two groups, but we ended up being seated together.  The other thing is you can potentially be seated at a table with groups of unfamiliar people.  We had another group at the end of our table.  It was actually fun meeting and talking to these new friends.

Because we had a group of eight, we decided to try all the “for the table items.”  Here is a link to their menu.

The homemade tater tots in the picture above were one of our favorite dishes.  It was yummy and reminded me of a potato pancake.  I also tried the Avocado Toast and the Autumn Butternut Squash Soup from the fall menu.  I was amazed at how affordable the food was and every item that our group tried, tasted good.

The design was open and pretty.  From the tile to the chandelier everything was so well done.

Shopping in Waco

While we were waiting for our seat at Magnolia Table, we were able to do a little shopping.  We also went shopping the following day.  I’ll share some of the stores we enjoyed.

Junque in the Trunk was a charming store to visit.  One of the things I loved was the handmade custom dining tables in the back of the store. The staging of the store was well done, and the staff was so kind and friendly.  We felt like everywhere we went to in Waco, the people were so friendly and welcoming.

Another favorite store was The Findery.  This cute store was just down the street from the Silos.  It had a fun mix of decorations, clothing, and furniture.  Here is a link to their website.

Cute gifts and furnishings from the Findery.

We also visited Harp Design Co, a store started by Clint Harp from the Fixer Upper TV show. Here is a link to Clint’s website. I ended up ordering some cute black and white stipped cloth napkins from their site.

Another fortunate thing about our trip was Clint Harp had a book signing.  Some of our group decided to be involved in this.  You can find Clint’s book here

At the beginning and end of every day, our favorite spot was the wrap around porch.  We felt like true southern ladies.  We definitely made some wonderful Magnolia memories.
